Dr. Deepak Kumar Jha

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology (Formerly MPI for the Science of Human History) in Jena, Germany. I completed my PhD from the Department of Earth Sciences, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata, India. My research interests are Quaternary climate, Human-Environment interaction, and Fire ecology. I use proxies such as leaf-wax biomarkers and their compound-specific isotope analysis (carbon and hydrogen) to understand the past climate and environment. My additional interest lies in reconstructing past fire regimes on the land targeting the archaeological sites to understand the role of humans in fire dynamics in tropical areas.
